"Lucy Thaler, nee Vaughn, was born in Trumball county, Ohio, July 21, 1844, and departed this life Feb. 15, 1921. Age 76 years, 7 months and 25 days.
In 1864 she was united in marriage to Joseph Thaler, who preceded her fifteen years ago. To this union were born eight children, two passing away in infancy.
In 1866 she moved with her husband to Leighton township, Allegan county, Michigan, on the farm now owned by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schad, in whose home she passed away.
Coming to this place when the country was new she knew the hardships of clearing and building up a home and the privations of a pioneer life. They lived in this home until April, 1905, when they moved to Wayland to reside.
She was happily converted when quite young, and was a member of the Evangelical church in Leighton until she moved to Wayland, when she had her membership transferred to the Wayland M. E. church of which she remained a faithful member until her death, always attending the church and prayer service when her health permitted.
Besides five daughters and one son she leaves one sister, Rozella Lampson of Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
She was of a most kind and loving disposition, always caring for the welfare and happiness of others, especially the spiritual welfare of her children as well as others. No task was to hard or to long for her to perform for her children.
The funeral was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred. Schad Friday, Feb. 18. The services were conducted by Rev. Rood, assisted by Rev. Ostroh of Leighton.
Oh, mother how we've loved you, How can we let you go?
But Jesus comes before us And he has willed it so.
