Generation Two

2. SARAH "SALLY"2 COTTON (Mr.1), daughter of (1) Mr.1 and Mrs. (COTTON) COTTON, was born on 28 Feb. 1809 in New York[5], died on 26 July 1882 in Ravenna[2, 1, 7] and was buried in Ravenna Twp[1]. She married (1st) in Seneca Co., in 1826, (SD-1) HENRY HACKETT[5], who was born in Vermont, and died in 1834. She married (2nd) in La Grange Co., on 28 June 1837, (RK-2) ESICK GREEN[3], son of (RK-1) _____ and Mrs. (GREEN) GREEN, who was born on 1 Feb. 1808 in New York[2, 4, 6], and died on 19 Dec. 1893 in Ravenna Twp[2, 6].
Sarah moved to Seneca Co, Ohio in 1825, and in 1826 married there Henry Hackett of Vermont. The family appears in Thompson Twp., Seneca Co, Ohio in the 1830 census. On May 25, 1832, Henry Hackett was granted the land patent for 80 acres in Thompson Twp. Her third child, Sally Ann Hackett, was born in 1834 and her husband Henry died that same year. She would remarry three years later in Indiana.

On November 8, 1836, Esick Green purchased 40 acres (NW1/4 of SE1/4) in section 9 of Newbury Twp, Lagrange Co, Indiana, and was later granted the land patent for this land on August 20, 1838. However, prior to that date, on October 10, 1837, Esick sold this land to David Cass. On July 7, 1838, Esick purchased 40 acres (NE1/4 of SW 1/4) in section 10 of Newbury Twp from Nathaniel P. Glazier, which was originally owned by Esick's brother-in-law Willard A. Cotton.

On May 10, 1841, Esick purchased 40 acres (NE1/4 of SW1/4) in section 5 from William Wickham, which had originally been owned by his brother-in-law Hiram Wilkinson. He and Sarah sold this land to Samuel Cochell on September 1, 1854.

Sometime thereafter, the family moved to Ravenna, Muskegon Co., Michigan, where they are found on the 1860 census, as well as in the 1870 census along with their nephew Alonzo Cotton. On October 15, 1872, Esick was a witness at the marriage of Eunice Cotton and Edward Balcom. On the 1877 Ravenna Township plat map, Esick owned land in the southeast quarter of section 25.

In the 1880 census, Esick and Sarah were in Pine Township, Porter Co., Indiana, which was also where Alonzo Cotton's family then lived. This individual has alternate parents in the database:

3. JANE2 COTTON (Mr.1), daughter of (1) Mr.1 and Mrs. (COTTON) COTTON, was born in 1811 in New York, died on 12 May 1855 in La Grange Co. and was buried in Newbury Twp., La Grange Co. She married (AQK-3) TRUMAN WILKINSON, son of (AQK-1) Nehemiah and Sally (HUNTER) WILKINSON, who was born on 5 April 1809 in Vermont, died on 1 Dec. 1857 in La Grange Co., and was buried in Newbury Twp.
In the 1830 census, Truman Wilkinson is found in Townsend Twp., Huron Co., Ohio. Around 1836, he and Jane, with their son Chester, moved to Newbury Twp., Lagrange Co., Indiana.

On March 15, 1837, Truman received the land patent for 80 acres (W1/2 of NW1/4) in section 17 of Newbury Twp. On April 3, 1837, he was elected Inspector in the township election. On November 8, 1838, Truman and Jane sold 20 acres in the NE corner of their land to Jane's brother Enos T. Cotton for $54, who resold the land a year later.

On March 5, 1842, Jane bought 40 acres (SE1/4 of SW1/4) in section 5 from her brother-in-law and sister Hiram and Lydia Wilkinson. After Truman and Jane died, this land was partitioned December 19, 1860, with 10 acres going to their son Christopher Wilkinson and Nancy Oxnder, and the other 30 acres to their other children Clarissa, Cynthia, and Clinton. Clinton and Christopher later sold the land in 1865. This individual has alternate parents in the database:
