Hartford, Jan. 7, 1908
Mr Wm. H. Fuller
Palmer, Mass.
I never was able to find proof that
the Asa Fuller of Middletown, Conn, who married
Mary Goodwin was the identical Asa son of
John who was baptized in Colchester in 1733.
Newton Fuller stated that it was so positively,
but never gave any proof, in fact he seems
to have had little use for proofs, as far as I
can judge. So I printed it that Asa was supposed
the son of John 5 of Colchester. It is only fair to
say that I have not found anything contrary
to the supposition. I inclose some notes of deeds
at Middletown relating to Asa.
Now don't repeat N.F.'s error about Samuel 4
and Elsie. I can prove by records that
Samuel 4 had an illicit connection with
Thankful Brown of Colchester, by whom he
had a son born Dec. 5, 1703. The son lived
and there are numerous descendants from
him. Thankful afterwards married Richard
Carrier and had a family. On the Records
of New London in 1704 or 1705 is the marriage
of Samuel Fuller of Machimoodus and Naomi
Rowley. She was living at Colchester in 1764, after
the death of Samuel 4 in 1757. I think the exact
date of this marriage is found in the MSS that
you have; if not, I will find it and send it
to you.
Mary Fuller who married Timothy Percival was
in my opinion daughter of Elkanah Fuller. I gave
this matter very careful study. T. Percival
was born in 1734. Mary dau of Asa Fuller
was born Dec 28. 1767. It is impossible that
T.P. married that Mary, dau. of Asa.
I do not know whom John 5 married. Never could
find it. In Sharon, Conn, I found a deed
about 1748 of Samuel Fuller of Colchester,
to his son John, and other deeds of John which
show that John was then living in Wethersfield
or Farmington. Some one of the Johns of Farm-
ington is he, but I could never find records
to determine which. You have my notes
on all these points. I know of nothing which
could be done to prove parentage of Asa -
I inclose notes from the census
Very truly yours
Homer W. Brainard
P.S. Patterson did not make any notes of Colchester
records separately, but there is a good deal _____
Colchester included in his notes of East Had-
dam families. All these I have seen and used -
Regarding John of Charlemont, Some of John's 5
brothers remained in Marlborough parish. In fact
one or two Fullers still live there in Marlboro, but of course
John of Charlemont may not connect with them.
Very truly yours

Mr W.H. Fuller
I was very much pleased
when I received the information you
sent me about the Fuller family.
I am sure the Asa you mention
was my great-grandfather as we
have a family tradition that he
descended from the Mayflower
Fullers and lived in Connecticut.
We have no papers that belonged
to my grandfather Charles Fuller
as he went to Wheeling(?) Ill to live
with a daughter and all his papers
were destroyed excepting a bible

record which is very incomplete
as it was written by several
different people and some of
the writing is very indistinct.
I am the youngest of the Fuller
family. The old family have all
been dead some years and I
have had difficulty in finding
out what little I know about
them. Do you know anything about
Asa's revolutionary record. I have the
war records of three of my great-
grandfathers and would like to
complete the circle. The living descend-
ants of our branch of the Fuller family
are not numerous. I send you all I
know about. I will send the names
of my grandfather Fullers family
as soon as I can complete the list.

Mr W. H. Fuller
I send you a
list of the
Fuller family as far as I know about
them. I would like the war record
of Asa Fuller but they seem to
be so numerous on the old war
records that unless we have farther
information it would be almost
impossible to say which was the one
we are looking for. I would be very
glad if you can find out anything
more about the family as I have always
been interested in them and know
so little about them. My sister
Mrs. Jane Fuller Barnard lives in an
old colonial house built about eighty
years ago on the site of Fort Stanwix
it is a beautiful house on a historical
spot and I think would be an addi-
tion to your book. I send you some
postal cards of the place, and if you
can use them, will send some note
to be used with the picture. We are
very proud of our historical record
here as Fort Stanwix was the first
place where the American flag
was floated. I will take two of
the Fuller books and hope you will
succeed in publishing it.
Yours truly
